What does it take to make HIV prevention choice accessible, trusted and used?

On 27 July 2026, the African Women Prevention Community Accountability Board (AWPCAB), together with APHA, ICWEA, the University of the Witwatersrand, Wits RHI and ViiV Healthcare, will host a public roundtable during IAS 2026 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The conversation will bring together researchers, advocates, implementers and funders to explore how expanding HIV prevention options can increase uptake and help people choose methods that work for their lives.

With oral PrEP, the dapivirine vaginal ring and long-acting injectable PrEP now available as prevention options, access alone is not enough. People also need trusted information, supportive services and the freedom to make informed choices.

The roundtable will feature evidence from the Catalyst Study on prevention choice and uptake, insights from AWPCAB’s five-country programme, and a facilitated discussion on community demand, barriers and practical advocacy messages.

Featured speakers

  • Patricia Jeckonia, LVCT Health Kenya
  • Nicollete Naidoo, Wits RHI
  • Dr Thembisile Xulu, SANAC
